Thurs June 16 "99.9% ISNT ENOUGH" Read II Cor 5:17

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things become new" (II Cor.5:17)

100% change of heart, a change cant happen 99.9% of the time.

100% born-again, cant be born 99.9%.

Some people say nothing is 100% "full proof" but being saved, sealed and secured by the blood of Jesus is FULL PROOF, 100% !

The fear & doubt that visited me over and over came to an end, when I finally admitted I was lost at being only 99.9% sure where I would spend eternity.

God brought me through it all, through everything because He loved me so much and spared my life so that I could be 100% sure as I John 5:13 says, "you can know you have eternal life."

Tuesday at 2pm , June 15, 2010, my name was written in the LAMBS BOOK OF LIFE, and so great is the 100% change the grace of God made in my soul! Before then, I'm 100% sure if I had died, I would have gone to hell.

A whole new world is in my soul and I will never have to worry again of only being 99.9% sure I'm saved.

IF you keep re-visiting doubt about your salvation, let God fix you, HE is the only thing thats 100% FULL PROOF.

Tues June 15 "Cleanup" Bible Reading: John 8

John 8: 31-32
"Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

I am thankful today that I have a church that feels like home. We had church cleanup Saturday.

Strange as it may sound, it was a lot of fun. We mulched, rearranged, cleaned, joked, laughed, and had a great time. I’m happy to be associated with that group of people. Our church stands on God’s holy word. All too often, people in churches just can’t get along. Disputes inside the church keep everyone confused and off focus. Turmoil with other churches keeps lost people out. I DON’T WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN THAT KIND OF RELIGION.

I want to hear about the Ten Commandments, seas parting, manna from heaven, and honey for my journey. I want to hear about a God that can speak worlds into existence, about pillars of cloud and fire, and giants slain by boys with slingshots. I want to hear about sacrifices soaked with water being consumed by fire from heaven, about the widow’s pot of oil and meal, about the Lord, my light and my salvation: Whom shall I fear? Or the beliefs our church is founded on like the virgin birth. About 5,000 men being fed with a child’s lunch, water being turned into wine, waves about to sink the disciple’s boat but being under my Savior’s feet – “Let not your heart be troubled.”

About the trial of an innocent Jesus, His crucifixion, the blood He shed for ME, about Him being dead for three full days, but then standing up alive, full of grace and mercy and love.

These are the foundational building blocks of a strong church and a strong Christian. If we all stay focused on Jesus and God’s word we will be a much stronger group of people…God’s church.

Fri June 11 "Exalting Self Before God" Bible Reading: I Samuel 22

EXALTING SELF ABOVE GOD

(1 Samuel 22:19) "And Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.”

All too often, Saul felt justified doing whatever he wanted, even if this meant ignoring God's Word. He first demonstrated this tendency when God told him to destroy all the Amalekites. Saul reinterpreted His word and only partially obeyed. While he wasn't willing to destroy the Amalekites, he was willing to kill everyone and everything in Nob, even the animals. Why? Because, innocently, they had helped David. Instead of placing his highest priority on pleasing God, Saul pursued his own will and desires. Samuel told him he had "rejected the word of the LORD," and as a result, "the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel"(1 Samuel 15:26) “And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.”

Even though we can be critical of Saul, many people have this kind of double standard. When they hear a word from the Lord or read the Bible, they reserve the right to decide for themselves what they think God meant-without ever asking Him! Instead, they listen to the opinions of other people. Saul's example reveals why it's so important that we submit our lives to God and have a personal relationship with Him-that we live by faith, believe His Word, obey Him, and realize our own limitations.

Today, stay humble before God. When you read the Bible, ask Him to give you understanding and revelation. Don't be guilty of reinterpreting His Word to satisfy your own opinions. "Don't let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould, but let God re-mould your minds from within. (Romans 12:2 - KJV) “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Set your heart on pleasing Him. It’s not about us, it’s all about Jesus Christ and what He has done, and is doing, and will do for us. Let’s take time today just to praise Him for all He is doing in other lives.

God bless you!

Thurs June 10 "April's Email" Bible Reading: James 5

In the family of God, we don't know all of our relatives, but someday we will all meet in Heaven, (if we know Jesus and have ask Him to save us)!

I don't know April Turner, but she sent this email tonight and even though I dont know her, I felt the Witness of God when I read her email...and April, though I have never met you, your email was a blessing, and I know others will feel the same (who know the Lord Jesus).

I'm sure April won't mind our sharing her email with our Facebook followers. The family of God is a big one, and this is what it is all about!

James 5:16B, "...the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."

April: Here's something that you can give your Pastor, a song called, "THE BIBLE STANDS" ...(he can google the music and Lyrics, but part of this song is grand and reads):

The Bible stands every test we give it,

For its Author is divine;

By grace alone I expect to live it,

And to prove and to make it mine.

Chorus:The Bible stands though the hills may tumble,

It will firmly stand when the earth shall crumble;

I will plant my feet on its firm foundation,

For the Bible stands.

God Bless You as you pray!

Here is April's email:
My Dear Friend,
First of all thank you for adding me as a friend. It's great to have Christian friends. I attend Phoenix Baptist Church in Lansing NC. We have this program called the care ministry. We send cards to people who are sick, discouraged, and who have lost a loved one recently. I was reading Circuit Riders post and immediately dropped all that I was doing to pray for Sister Libby and Brother David. Is there any way possible that you can send me an address to Libby and David? I don't know them but that's ok....as Christians, I believe it is our duty to pray for others. I pray for healing if it be God's will. If not, I pray for comfort and strength in the days ahead. I am so thankful we can lift one another in prayer. I ask that when you pray that you remember one of our church members, Bernard Calhoun and wife Maude. Bernard just found out he has liver cancer. It started out as the size of a baseball and in a weeks time grew to the size of a grapefruit. He's currently in Charlotte from the last report I recieved. Also please pray for our Pastor, Jeff Dollar. A member in our church is against him preaching from the King James Bible. I will continue to pray for Libby and David. Please keep me updated. I will also mention their name tonight at church and put them on our prayer request.

Wed June 9 "Salvation Assurance" Read John 10:27-29

The Assurance of Salvation!

Jesus offers us salvation for free!

Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith."

The Bible teaches us that once God saves us, He keeps us saved. Without the assurance of salvation, we are never going to serve the Lord as we should.

We can have the assurance of salvation. I Peter 1:5, "Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."

It is important for us to settle this matter. We are saved forever and we never have to worry about dying and going to hell if we have ask Jesus to come into our heart! And HE WILL!

We are kept by God, confidently guarded by God, "through faith unto salvation." Eternal life is our present possession!

John 10: 27-29, Christ taught that we are kept safe in His hand and in the hand of the Father.

Im so glad that when things seem hopeless, I can fall back in the arms of my Saviour!

Do you have assurance of your salvation?

Tues June 8 "Going to Church" Read Hebrews 10

Hebrews 10:25 - "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

Do you know what is happening in America today? People who claim to be Christians are not getting involved and becoming faithful to a church -- the local fellowship of believers. Such a thing was unheard of in the Bible. If you were a Christian, you were faithful to the fellowship. You attended when everyone gathered together. If you stopped attending, they assumed that you were an apostate. What is more important than the local visible expression of the body of Christ? It is the way we stay "plugged in" to the needs of the body of Christ. It is the way we show honor to Him in worship. It is simply the way.

What do you have on your schedule this week that is more important than being a part of the blood-bought body of the Lord Jesus Christ? The church is a very special place to be. I am not talking necessarily about the building. The church is made up of born again baptized believers in Jesus Christ.

Going to church will build your faith, strengthen each other in fellowship and God said He would always be with us as we meet together for worship.

(Matt. 18.20) "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

Mon June 07 What Are We Willing To Do For God? Read Acts 26

What Are You Willing to Do For God?

What are you willing to do for God?

That is the question I asked my Sunday School Class this past Sunday.

We discussed Paul’s willingness to go to the extreme to do anything for God. In Acts 26, we find Paul on trial. His case has already been discussed and no evidence was found against him, but false witnesses came against him. But Paul was not worried about their false testimonies against him; he was right where he wanted to be and where God needed him to be. In verse 1, I can imagine the smile on Paul’s face when Agrippa permitted him to speak to him. With a captive audience and judge, Paul was more than happy to tell exactly what he had been and Who had changed him on the road to Damascus. In verse 10, he admitted to giving voice against Christians, because they were Christians. In 13-19, he tells about his conversion. Now imagine being in the Watauga County Courthouse and giving the judge and jury your testimony. Because Paul was willing to do the extreme for God, look in verse 28 at what Agrippa says to Paul, “Almost you persuade me to be a Christian.” In verse 31 and 32 they admit that Paul is innocent and would have been set free except for the fact that Paul had already appealed to Caesar. You see, Paul was happy to give his testimony to Agrippa and the other people in the courtroom – his ‘captive audience.’ Paul was willing to do exactly what it took to give his testimony and spread the Good News of Jesus.

When I asked the question to the teens in my class not even one said they were willing to do anything God asked. One said he would do anything but fly in a plane and another said for us to pray that she would find strength to do something that God had already asked her to do. They all were honest. Then I was honest with them and said when God gave me this lesson I thought to myself ‘Sure I am willing to read my Bible and pray more!’ Then God reminded me that I read and pray for MYSELF –not Him!

Ask yourself this question: If God asked you, would you be willing to go to the worst neighborhood in your county and beat on doors and invite people to church and give your testimony? I know I would be way out of my comfort zone! If God asked you to go to Haiti and witness to the witches and black magic practitioners there, how many would go? This past week we at Cornerstone had a man of God be brave enough to step out and go in front of the church to announce his Call to preach.

We all need to have more spiritual hero's & leaders like Brother Bryan Miller-and the Apostle Paul, but always looking unto Jesus!

June 3 “Pray, Papaw! Pray!” Bible Reading Inclusive

I had a conversation with my aunt a few days ago. We were just sitting at my grandmother’s (Nana’s) kitchen table talking when the conversation turned to my grandfather (Papaw).

You see, I’m the only grandson out of six grandchildren on that side of the family. So, naturally, I guess Papaw treated me a little differently than the five granddaughters. He kept me by his side just about all the time. He bought me pretty much anything I wanted. We would spend hours on end in the mountains looking for ginseng. He would show me huge trees and talk about how we would live the good life if we had enough trees that big. (He was a sawmiller.) He loved guns and shooting. When I developed the same interests you can guess what my Christmas present was that year. Yep, a brand new Marlin .22 rifle. The girls weren’t very happy when I got to the sixth grade and we all got off the school bus and there, waiting for me, was a Yamaha motorcycle gassed up and ready to go. In 1988 he took me out west, all the way to Yellowstone National Park. He said he wanted me to see that part of the country with him. He had contacted a rancher in Wyoming who was going to let our group (my dad, uncle, Papaw, any myself) hunt for deer on his property. And, of course, I couldn’t take a trip like that without something to hunt with. This came in the form of a new Remington .243, complete with scope and ammo. In the summer, when I was out of school, he hired me on to work for him. Most of my duties involved helping him mow his yard, shooting guns, watching TV, riding with him to the lumber yard or to get parts, wandering around in the woods and, on some rare occasions, actual work. He was just about the best friend a boy under thirteen could ask for. By the time I’d finished eighth grade I had gotten big enough to start doing more of the work at the saw mill and didn’t get as much “loaf” time. Because I was busy with my newfound duties I barely noticed when he said he wasn’t feeling good. I didn’t find it strange that he was wearing his coat in the middle of summer.

On the night of July first I had just went to bed when the phone rang. I heard my dad say, “Ok, I’ll be up there in a minute.” I jumped out of bed, got dressed and ran to catch up with my dad. When we got to Papaw’s house he was standing at his pickup, gasping for breath. Dad jumped in and I helped Papaw into the truck. We started toward the hospital. After just a few miles he looked at me and said, “I just can’t live, Kev.” He slumped forward and seemed to be groaning. I had my arm around his back and it was sweaty and cold; he seemed to be asleep. I can remember looking at the speedometer in the truck and it said we were going 85 mph. I looked over at Papaw. He was leaned back with his eyes closed. Now I stated in an earlier devotional that I was saved at a young age. And so I did the only thing I could think to do. I got as close to his ear as possible and shouted as loud as I could, “Pray, Papaw! Pray!” I was so scared. My life changed forever that night.

He spent two weeks in a coma before the doctors recommended my grandmother, dad and aunts allow him to be taken off life support. He died less than twelve hours later. I don’t even remember the next three weeks. But I do remember starting high school a short time later. I had a terrible time with it. I would beg my mom and dad not to make me go back. To beat all I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep and, even worse, I couldn’t cry. I hadn’t cried even one time since it happened.

Finally one night I was in my room – still awake – and my mom came in. She asked how I was doing and if school was going any better and then she snuck in, “Have you cried any since Papaw died?” I said no, that I felt guilty that I hadn’t, that I wanted to and needed to but couldn’t. She told me to pray that God would help me. She said that I couldn’t keep it all inside. Psalm 126:6 says, “He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” Psalm 30:5 says, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” When she left I began to pray. I felt that old lump in my throat. Once it started I think I cried half the night.

I know now that this was the first major trial of my life. Why God chose that particular time and way, only He knows. But I Peter 1:7 says, “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.” The purest gold and silver has been tried time and time again…by fire.

Now I know I’m not the purest gold or silver, but I also know that I’ve never grown in spirit without a trial. The next time you’re in a trial, just remember when you come through it that you’ll be more pure than you were when you went into the fire.

June 1 "Just When I Need Him Most" Read: PSALM 46:1-3

There are so many verses in the King James Bible that we can reference when we are seeking God in times of trouble, despair and sickness...

I think of the scripture in 2 Corinthians 4:8-10 (King James Version), "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body."

What hope would we have if we didn't have the Word of God? It is how God speaks to us and prayer is how we speak to Him, and to know that God's Son makes intercession to the Father for me EVERY time I go to Him for anything...I am so foolish to ever leave God in prayer and Bible reading!

I want to know that when I need Him, that I have been seeking Him all along, and not just when I need Him most...

When we don't read our Bible and pray, it is a sin of omission, and we can't confess sins of omission, we just have to admit wrong and move forward doing right...start reading the Bible and praying, it is our source of hope, strength, and faith.

Let us not starve ourselves physically like we starve ourselves spiritually!

In closing, I think of the song, "Just When I Need Him Most" written by William Poole who died in 1907:

Just when I need Him, Jesus is near,
Just when I falter, just when I fear;
Ready to help me, ready to cheer,
Just when I need Him most.

Just when I need Him most,
Just when I need Him most,
Jesus is near to comfort and cheer,
Just when I need Him most.

Just when I need Him, Jesus is true,
Never forsaking, all the way through;
Giving for burdens pleasures anew,
Just when I need Him most.

Just when I need Him, Jesus is strong,
Bearing my burdens all the day long;
For all my sorrow giving a song,
Just when I need Him most.

Just when I need Him, He is my all,
Answering when upon Him I call;
Tenderly watching lest I should fall,
Just when I need Him most.

We must stay in fellowship and build a relationship with God every day.

God help us to do so!

God help me to do so!

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear , though the earth be removed , and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled , though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah." PSALM 46:1-3

May 31 "Keeping Your Word" Read I John 2:5

"Keeping Your Word"

1 John 2:5 "But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him."

This thought has come across my mind quite often lately. It seems as though we get so busy in our everyday life that we sometimes forgot about things we have told someone we would do. For instance I have a dear friend who asked my to send her a daily bible verse and I can remember to do that for a few days in a row then the devil steals that thought and I have to apoligize and start over. Then it becomes a pattern. I truly get convicted over it and realize that I put some things in front of that, that have no importance compaired to the value of THE WORD! His word never comes back void and our words get shallow and empty due to the lack of the renewing of our minds daily. I know as a child when my parents told me they were going to do something I hung on their every word and took it to heart.

In the days we live in now we don't think about the person we've gave our word to...what it feels like when we don't keep it. Sure, there are certain things that come up out of our control but we must remember as Christians that there is always someone listening or watching to see if are doing our best to be Christ-like!

May 28 "Family In Crisis" Publication

The Family in Crisis

New figures show that increasing numbers of children in America are being born out of wedlock. According to statistics gathered by the Pew Research Center from census reports, 41 percent of American babies in 2008 did not have married parents. That’s a striking increase of 13 percent from findings in 1990, when 28 percent of babies were born out of wedlock in our nation. What does this mean?It means that our society is losing its way morally. And children are the victims.

In our schools, we have traded the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule for situational ethics and sexual ambiguity. Children learn that there is no real right or wrong and when they become adults they live out this creed, jumping into sexual relationships at will.In the media, sexual imagery is splashed in our faces all the time. As a man, I know how important it is to depend on the Christ who lives in me to keep my mind clean. But our culture constantly battles us in this regard. Men get the message hammered into their minds that women are sexual creatures for their pleasure, and this thinking becomes a part of their existence. Watch a “dating” show on TV some time. It’s downright shocking. This is certainly not what God intended for us.

Oh, how we need the Lord today in our homes, churches and in our society, in this order. We must have revival and we can’t expect it to begin in the White House, the State House or the School House, but in God’s House. Judgment must begin at the House of God.Are we as Christians just going to sit around and do nothing to bring our country back to God?

I don’t believe most of us know how bad a shape we are in. We have been blessed so much in America that many of us don’t believe that we could end up like a third world country. We are in deep trouble and we really need God’s help.May each of us make a new commitment to turn back to God and get our families back to God and in church and pray, pray, pray.

God bless each of you!

May 25 "Give and It Shall Be Given Unto You" Read: Luke 6:38

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:38

When we think about giving as a church we think about tithes and offerings. We all know we need to tithe and give to the church. However there are other things that if we give we can expect to receive. Things like compassion, love, time and effort, just to name a few. We give by visiting people in the hospital or at home. Both people in the church and in the world appreciate a visit from a friendly face. A friend of mine spent his whole Saturday building a deck for a church member in need. We give love by never letting a need go unfilled and showing people how a healthy church operates. But all too often people, the church included, are too willing to give other things. Things like judgment, rumors, gossip jealousy, laziness and greed. As you go through your week think about the things you give and remember what you give, you will receive… “good measure pressed down and shaken together and running over”…

May 24 "From the Dope House to the Pulpit"

“From the Dope House to the Pulpit”

The testimony of Jimmy Galgano...

I was led to give my testimony hoping that maybe it would touch someone that’s lost or encourage a saint of God that they can do anything. Well my testimony starts out as most others in these mountains. I was took to church as a young man and made a profession of faith at a young age, I can remember going up to the alter only because everyone else was. Looking back now I can see I never produced any fruit that comes along with salvation. I grew up a pretty normal kid, I didn’t have bad childhood I cant blame the choices I made on anyone else other than me. I was a good kid in school, made straight A’s never got in trouble but all that changed in eighth grade. I was desperate to fit, my family never had a lot of money ( but mom done the best she could do ) so my way of fitting in was through drugs. I was the hookup, I was the one who could find a place to party, I thought finally I am important to people. Some 9 years later I would find out I was all alone. For the sake of time Ill be brief through my teen years. I was busted for drugs when I was 14 years old, stayed on probation until I was almost 18 years old. Dropped out of high school and never really cared about anything. Then when I was 18 I move out, thought I was going to conquer the world, but I found out the world will spit you up and chew you out! It wasn’t long until I was on the “ hard drugs” and was head long into an addiction that no one but Christ could cure. Before I turned 19 I was in rehab for second time ( my first stint in rehab was when I was 15, matter of fact I spent my 16th birthday there) so I knew I had a problem. I thought it was the drugs but in all reality it was a sin problem. I left rehab worse than what I went in. I can remember leaving and getting so high on cocaine that night I thought I was going to die. At 5 or 6 o’clock that morning I actually left the house I was in and went to die in a car by myself, BUT GOD had mercy on me that night.. The drugs got worse, partying was more, now I was committing crimes, LIFE was horrible for me. Then one evening I got the worst calls of my life one of my best friends died on his 18th birthday in a car wreck. He was on his way to get his license, him and his cousin both passed away that day. I was tore apart and didn’t know where to turn. That week I was introduced to a drug known as meth and I was addicted the very first time I used. I left home again that week and didn’t show my face for months. I lived a depraved life apart from any reality. I was in the worst shape of my life. Meth ruined any descent part of me that was left. I denounced that there was a God and got deep into the music f Marilyn Manson and worshipped him. Then one Sunday I overdosed and on every drug you could think of and ended up in the hospital just heartbeats away from hell. God spared me again even though I cursed Him that night.. Just a few months later God gloriously saved my soul and deliver me from drugs. I just want to say I PRAISE HIS NAME! When I fully surrendered to God he done something in me nobody else could. He placed a new man inside of me and that’s what I needed. AA or NA wouldn’t help me, the only 12 steps I needed was from the pew to the pulpit. God has blessed me so much since then. He has given me a beautiful wife a darling son, and has called me to preach His word and I now pastor at Clifton Baptist Church. Friend there is nothing to big for my GOD. There is no one that God cant use, if he can take a run down drug addict like me and make a preacher of Him just imagine what he can do for you. Gods grace is sufficient and I am realizing that more and more everyday. This November will make five years that I have been saved. Just five years ago I was a nobody, had no hope no joy no love. But now I feel like God has blessed me more than anyone else I know. Friend He will do it for you too if you will let Him. I am not boasting in anything I used to do or who I used to be. In fact that man I told you about just a little while ago is dead. But I want you to see that God can and is willing to save anyone. I look back over all those years I was lost and I can see Gods grace and mercy covering me like a hen covers her diddles under her wings. Friend I hope this has helped you don’t give up praying for that one that you love so dearly that’s lost on drugs. Keep praying help is on the way. You never know God make take them from the dope house and put then right into the CHURCH HOUSE.

May God Bless You

May 21 "Quiet, Please!" Proverbs 17:28

When I was young, and used to have to go to the library, I would always see that sign that said, "Quiet, Please!"

If and when you did speak in the library, you had to be very quiet.

Even though I saw friends in the library and wanted to talk and catch up, I had to refrain from doing so...it wasn't the place to do so...

The knowledge wasn't in the words of others, it was in the books the lined the walls and I quickly learned the two didnt mix...and I also learned that the less I said, the more knowledge I gained because I wasn't busy talking, I was busy reading and listening...

Anytime I was being taught or I was learning, it demanded that I, (myself) just needed to be quiet...

PROV 17:28, "Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding."

Sometimes the Lord would have us to just be quiet...be quiet with Him, be quiet in church and be quiet at home.

Did you know that many folks think that when its time to share a testimony or voice our opinion that we think others may think we have knowledge by doing so?

The Bible tells us the opposite is true...that a man of knowledge and understanding is sparing of his words; and will be reckoned a wise man by those that don't even know him! The Bible teaches that most times we just need to plainly "shutteth our lips" [and] he that shutteth his lips [is esteemed] a man of understanding ; and keeps them shut, lest he should say anything rashly and hastily; a man that has so much command of himself as not to speak unadvisedly, through the heat of his own passions, and through the provocations of others, will pass for a man that understands himself, and knows how to behave well before others.

When given the chance, be careful when you speak, and let the man of God speak to others about the way that God would have us to live. God knows our heart, and the fool that is bound there, so let us glorify God by holding our peace and in good terms, most of the time!

As everyday Christians, let's speak to God, and when we use our tongue, let it be for the reasoning of sharing the gospel alone, otherwise we should truly think before we speak...and speak less than more often!

May 19 "It Starts at Home" Bible Reading Included

IT STARTS AT HOME...

Over the past few weeks the Lord has really dealt with me to do a devotion on the home life. For many Christians their home life doesn't line up with the Bible, so it makes it difficult for their relationship with God to line up with His word.

The Lord did not intend for our homes to be filled with anger, resentment, impatience, hatred or any negative qualities. Sure, we all deal with fleshly emotions daily but, the Bible gives us the plenty of details on how to deal with situations we come up against.

Our marriage and relationships with our children have to be solid and biblical in order to serve God. Husbands must love their wives as Christ loves His church and wives must submit to their husbands (which is hard for some to do).

To be honest, it took me along time to truly submit, but when I did everything just seemed to be so much better in our relationship at home. If Christians will follow the Bible and what it tells us about our home and relationships, we will all have a better relationship with our Lord.

Matthew 7:24 says, "Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock."

We all are entitled to a wonderful home life if we build it on our spiritual rock and not our fleshly emotions. Just remember, it does matter how our home life is and it will affect our worshiping the Lord. If we can't get along at home, how do we expect to get along any where else? Our children and friends in our home do see how we live and wonder how we serve God and act like we do sometimes. Be sure that if you don't get your home life right, you won't be right with God and your prayers will be hindered!

May 18 "When Jason Got Saved" Read: Luke 5:1-12

Jason, the other youth Sunday school teacher, taught a lesson Sunday about influences in our lives. The scripture he went from was Luke 5:1-12. “And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, and saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, ‘Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.’ And Simon answering said unto him, ‘Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.’ And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, ‘Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.’ For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, ‘Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.’ And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him. And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying,"Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean."

Jason said that in this account of the first disciples being called, Jesus influenced Simon with a miracle. But Simon was captain of this boat, it seemed, so that when he came to Jesus it influenced James and John. Jason went on to tell about one of his friends who, when Jason was still unsaved, would drink and party and although he never made him, forced him or even asked him to drink, just because his friend had done it, it influenced Jason to do it, too. But then Jason got saved. He was the same Jason, but he walked and talked and lived a little differently. And after a while his buddy began to notice and wonder what was going on. Then he got in church and got saved himself. Jason had influenced him – for God. This made me think about the influenced in my own life.

There are good ones – my mom, her mom, my sister, my wife, even my own daughter in a way. There are bad influences in my life, too, but I’m not going to name them. But it also made me think about the people I influence and have influenced in one way or another. People like the members of my Sunday school class, my co-workers, my neighbors, even my church’s facebook friends who read these devotionals. But most importantly, my daughter. She sees me at my best and at my worst. My prayer is that if I influence anybody that it will be for God’s good or nothing. I challenge you today to look at your life and the people around you and try to influence them the way God leads you to.

Have a good week!

May 14 "Walking with Jesus" Bible Reading Included.

How's our daily walk with God?
Our Heavenly Father desires to meet with us. Just as we stay in touch with a close friend or family member, God wants us to stay in touch with Him. Talk to Him through prayer, read His message to us through the Bible, take our cares and concerns to Him, and make Him a daily part of our life. Also keep a tender heart toward God's leading in our lives. Allow Him to have full control of our actions, thoughts, words, and direction. As we faithfully follow God each day, He will guide us into greater use in His work.

Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

Psalm 25:4-5

And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the Lord am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.
Leviticus 20:26

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8

May 13 "BOASTING IN GOD ALONE" Jeremiah 9:23,24

BOASTING IN GOD ALONE

Jeremiah 9:23-24:

Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

Everyone wants to accomplish something significant in this life. We all desire to do things well and sometimes we like to boast about the things we do. But God says we are to boast about one thing only...that we know Him.

Folks may want to boast about wisdom, strength and riches, but even if we have all these characteristics, we can't allow pride to set in as though WE did something great because EVERYTHING WE HAVE COMES from GOD if we are His!

The one thing we can boast about is our relationship with the Lord. The only reason I (personally) have the potential to do anything is because I am HIS, and HE is mine and His Spirit dwells in me. Because of HIS greatness in me, He can accomplish things through me. Perhaps the greatest thing we may every accomplish are the things no one will ever see...interceding in prayer or spending quality time with Jesus.

Let us pray and confess any pride we have over anything in our lives. Let us pray that we never appear boastful about anything other than the fact we know Jesus as our personal Savior. Let's pray and know that the only good or potential of good is because the Holy Spirit dwells in us.

Lord, help us to keep clean in our mind, body and soul so that God can use us to our fullest potential so we can BOAST in GOD ALONE.

Trusting this will help us.

May 11 "Life Without Limits" Alternate Bible Reading

Life Without Limits

The other day I was standing around talking with the other guys at work. Not gossiping; you know men don’t know how to do that! But something came up about a man who wanted to move to the other side of the country and start a new career. But in order to do this he had to borrow half the start-up money from his dad. This gentleman was afraid to do this because there was no guarantee that he would succeed. We discussed it for a few minutes and I made the remark that the only guarantee we have in life is death. And just like that, I placed a limit on God in my life.

You see, after I said those words God showed me that the Bible is full of promises, guarantees from God. If we are willing to accept and believe for them, He is more than willing to give. Here are just a few. The first and most important is guaranteed salvation. II Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature. Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Philippians 1:6 says, “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

The second promise I’d like to share with you is for guidance. Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with Mine eye.” You see, if we seek God’s will in our decisions in life, He will guide us to the place He wants us to be. When you have decisions in life one choice leads to success, the other to failure. Pray until God gives you peace in your decision and don’t make your choice until He does.

Here is one that probably won’t make you happy – hard time and trials will come. Matthew 5:45 says, “That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for He maketh His Son to ride on the evil and the good. And send the rain on the just and the unjust.” Sometimes bad things do happen to good people. God’s word says that it happens. But in Psalm 9:9 He gives us another guarantee: the Lord will also be a sanctuary for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

Read Hebrews 13:5. God guarantees that He will never leave you or forsake you. I believe every word in the Bible. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t believe one. I can now see that the only limits in my life – concerning God – are the limits I put there myself through lack of faith and speaking doubt in my life. God showed me that I can take every word in that Book as a “double your money back” guarantee.

May 10 "Personal Testimony"

For todays devotion, we share the testimony of Beth Causby Bare...

John 8:12 -
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

"I know that every word of my Bible is true. God sent His son to die for me and I thank God that my soul was worth dying for. I was a single mother and headed down a road of destruction for me and my daughter but I found my Lord and he saved me 2 years ago. I now have a wonderful husband, a loving church family and can finally be the mother that God intended for me to be because of His love and guidance. Most importatnly though I know that one day I will go to Heaven and never have to hurt or deal with the burdens that this life has to bring! Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so!"

May 07 "True Security" Bible Reading throughout...

Psalms 125:1-2 (KJV) "They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever."

True Security

What does it mean to trust the Lord? It means looking to him as the source of our security and putting our faith in the grace, love, power, and protection of God when the inevitable pressures of life come.

It means knowing as the psalmist did that the mountains surround Jerusalem, God himself surrounds and shields his people. When we trust the Lord, we don't have to focus on the wicked and what they are doing or might do to us. We don't have to rehash our own woes. Even though there are problems the size of mountains facing us, we can cry out to the Lord who created the mountains and is able to move them. As we focus on him and his truth, he will encourage our hearts and help us to claim the great promise of verse 2: The Lord will surround and protect his people, now and forever.

Let’s keep our attention and focus on the Lord Jesus Christ and His Powerful Word. Satan loves to attack our minds. “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.”

Philippians 4:8 (KJV) "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

Philippians 2:5 (KJV) "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus..."

Isaiah 26:3 (KJV) "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."

In these lasts days, we really need to keep our focus on the Lord and His Word. Jesus always responded with the Word when he was attacked by Satan. (Matt. 4:1-11)

Keep your minds on the promises of God.

Philippians 4:13 (KJV) "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

1 John 4:4 (KJV) "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."

Revelation 12:10-11 (KJV) "And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death."

We are winners if we are saved.

God bless each and every one of you!

May 05 "True Love" Read 1 John 4

God is Love: True Love Only Comes Through a Relationship With Him.

God is Love! As such, true love -- God's love -- can be summed up in this passage of scripture: "Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another." (1 John 4:7-11)

If you want to know this love - true love -- get to know God. He is ready to pour out His love on you, and He wants to teach you how to love others as He loves you.

May 4 "But for the Grace of God........" Read: 1 Cor 15

1 Corinthians 15:10

"But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me."

Our Saviour says, "I am that I am" and it is our privilege to say, (as Paul did): "But by the grace of God I am what I am...by God's grace we are what we are!! Praise Him now!

We are nothing but what God makes us, nothing in religion but what His grace makes us!! Nothing at all without Jesus!

All that is good in us is a stream from this fountain. We are a debtor to the grace of God.

God worked in Paul's life and then came a humble servant...

A humble spirit will be very apt to own and magnify the grace of God. A humble spirit is a gracious one...where pride is subdued, grace usually reigns...we can see this develop throughout Paul's ministry.

So many have found "grace in the eyes of the Lord" when through so many trials & tribulations in this life...and then will come a humble servant!

Lets pray together today for God's grace and because of grace, we will be made humble...and realize without Jesus, we are dust, and all our righteousness is filthy rags!

In closing I think of this great song:

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled.

Grace, grace, God’s grace,Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;

Grace, grace, God’s grace,Grace that is greater than all our sin.

Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold,

Threaten the soul with infinite loss;
Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold,
Points to the refuge, the mighty cross.

Dark is the stain that we cannot hide.

What can avail to wash it away?
Look! There is flowing a crimson tide,
Brighter than snow you may be today.

Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,

Freely bestowed on all who believe!
You that are longing to see His face,
Will you this moment His grace receive?

God Bless You.

May 3 "Strong Tower" Read: Proverbs 18 & Psa 61

The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it and is safe.

Proverbs 18:10

I am happy to report to you today that we Christians have a shelter, a strength, a strong tower to count on in times of need, or at any time. When the world throws every kind of fiery dart at us we have the name of the Lord to call upon, that strong tower that we can run into and be safe. You can leave the seat you’re in at this moment and go to the other side of the earth and that strong tower is right there. I am thankful that as a child I discovered that strong tower and ran into it and was saved. God is my ever-present help in time of need. At times in my life I have drifted so far from Him I thought He would surely forget who I was. The only thing He forgot was my sins when I repented. When I was weak, the Tower was still strong. Psalm 61:3 says, “For Thou hast been a shelter for me, and a stronghold from the enemy.” When we are in the shelter of the Strong Tower, the enemy cannot touch us.

April 30 "The Lord Knows the Way of the Righteous" Read: Psalm 1

The Lord Knows the Way of the Righteous.

Key Verses: Psalm 1:1-2 & 6

When I was a teenager, I remember thinking that Christians and non-Christians were so much alike, that one really couldn't tell the difference. Everyone dressed conservatively, you didn't hear the kids swear and life seemed to go on pretty smoothly.

I realize that I was very naive but, although evil existed in our society at alarming rates, it was still pretty much "under the table." Today, however, we live in the I'm OK, you're OK lifestyle, otherwise known as "live and let live."

As Christians, it's easy to get pretty complacent about our Christian lives. So often we do just like the non-Christians do in comparing ourselves to each other instead of comparing ourselves to God, and the pattern of perfection He has established in His Word.

We will never be able to perfectly obey God's Word until we join Him in Heaven, but we should be continually striving toward that end.

Keeping that in mind, just look at what the Bible says about the Christian in Psalm 1...

The Godly man doesn't listen to the counsel of the non-Christians around us especially regarding who we are and where we came from, we don't walk in their lifestyles, and we don't sit around and talk about people behind their back.

It's not easy, is it? We know God is everywhere, but so often we live each day as though He's off visiting in another planet or something. The Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Pray that God will help us today to take Jesus everywhere we go. Oh, I know He's already there -- but, put your hand in His, and think about Him being right there beside you all day.

God Bless You.

April 27 "Bible Doctrine Does Matter" Proverbs 4:2

“Bible Doctrine Does Matter”
Proverbs 4:2 KJV

Today (more than ever) we as Christians need to study our Bible more and more and understand the doctrines of the Bible. The word doctrine means teaching, so basically we need to understand what the Bible teaches on every subject so we aren’t misled by false teachers. We live in a time where there is more false teaching than there is true teaching of the word of God. But that’s just a fulfillment of the Bible.

2 Timothy 2:3 KJV says this, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine: but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears" The true doctrine of the word of God is essential for us to “grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” thus its essential for us to know what the Bible teaches on subjects so we will be able to "stand against the wiles of the devil."

Bible doctrine is left out of the majority of pulpits in America today. Bible doctrine is needed so that when a false teacher comes along, you will be able to tell the real from the counterfeit. Studying the Word of God will help us grow as Christians.

Can I say this? The type of Church you go to matters more than anything in the world. Other than making the choice to be saved, the most important decision you make is where you go to Church. There is a movement going on that is against denominational systems, that says it doesn’t matter where you go to church as long as you go. It does matter where you go to church, it does matter that the preacher stand on the truths of Gods word. I know denominations aren’t in the Bible, but neither is having Sunday school, or Wednesday night service, or having singings, or having plays, so do we quit doing them also? Why no! The denominational system is set up so people know before they go into a church what that church stands on and believes. I urge each one of you to learn some Bible doctrine, to study what the word of God says and stand on it. I know I am not a popular preacher but I stand on the KJV Bible. There isn’t one flaw in the KJV Bible. The Bible says “study to show thyself approved”.

We need to understand Gods word today more than ever so that we can know those who preach and teach lies. Im not talking about running them down and calling names but able to identify truth from error. I urge each of you to study your Bible, to study doctrinal beliefs in the Bible. A good thing to help you start in your studies would be to get a copy of the 24 Articles of Faith of the Independent Baptist Church. It will be a big help to you, you will grow beyond belief, when you dig into the word of God. And remember DOCTRINE DOES MATTER.

April 26 " A FATHERS CONFIDENCE" READ: JOB 1

A Father’s Confidence

The other day I was talking with a gentleman I’ve known for a few years. Somehow, our conversation turned to his son, who I also know. The father told me that a neighbor had accused his son of trespassing onto another neighbor’s land, breaking the law. When the second neighbor asked my friend about it he said, “Has ‘Jason’ been coming on my land? He knows I don’t allow anyone to.” My friend simply replied, “No, I asked him not to and I know my son would honor my request.” He had all the confidence in the world in his son. He didn’t have to call and ask “Jason” if he had been trespassing. The father knew he hadn’t been because he had asked his son not to. It reminds me of the story of Job.

Read Job 1: Job was a wealthy man, a man who feared God and hated evil. He was blessed with ten children, thousands of sheep, oxen and camels. We find that he was the greatest of the men of the east. He continually rose up early to offer burnt offerings and to seek God. We all know the story, how Satan shows up and asks God for a contest to see if Job will curse God. God says, with all confidence, that Job is perfect and upright, that he “feareth the Lord and hates evil.” God didn’t have to send for Job and ask if he was up to the task. God was confident that he was because He knew Job; He knew that Job put Him first and He remembered Job getting up early all those mornings, seeking God’s will in his life.

Now, let me just say that I am confident in God. I have been blessed with more than any man deserves. I have a beautiful wife and daughter, a roof over my head, food in my stomach, shoes and clothes. I have an able body, fit to do work. And just like in Job 1:10, God does bless the work of my hands. I’m not trying to boast but God has blessed me and I am confident in God. But this chapter made me question something: just how confident is God in me? I mean, could God look Satan in the eye and say, “Consider my son Kevin Winebarger. He won’t let me down"... I don’t think He could. Then God revealed to me that He can say, “Consider my Son, Jesus, Who died and rose again and when Kevin Winebarger asked for My grace, the Blood was applied to his soul and although his flesh is not perfect, My grace is sufficient. And in his weakness My strength is made perfect.” You see, He’s still workin’ on me…and you. But we’re not perfect, and can’t be as long as we live in this ol’ flesh. But if we strive to be more of what God needs us to be, God can and will put more and more confidence in us. Now back to our story...

After some investigation, it turned out that no, “Jason” had not trespassed. In fact, the accusing neighbor was the real trespasser. And just like the accuser of the brethren, he was trying to blame shift. But it didn’t work…because of a father’s confidence.

Too each of you a blessed week!

April 24 "Death" Read: Hebrews 9:27 & Romans 14:10-12

Death

Hebrews 9:27 (KJV) And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment...

There is an old legend about a man who made a covenant with Death. The contract stated that Death would not come to him unannounced and without warning. The years went by, and at last, Death appeared before the man. The old man said, “Death, you have not been true to your promise. You have not kept your covenant. You promised you would not come unannounced. You never gave me any warning.” Death replied, “Not so! Every gray hair in your head is a warning. Every one of your lost teeth is a warning. Your eyes growing dim and your natural power and vigor abated is a warning. Oh yes, I have warned you and warned you continually.” With those words Death swept the man into eternity.

We are one heart beat from eternity. The next breath could be our last. Death is an appointment all of us will keep if Jesus tarries His coming. But I also believe that Jesus is coming soon.

In these last days, we need to be right with God and right with each other.

Please don’t let anything come between you and the Lord, and please don’t let anything come between you and your brother and sister in Christ. Satan will do all he can in these last days to divide us. Let’s stay true to Jesus and to God’s word. If you have any ill feelings toward a family member or a brother or sister in Christ, please go to them and get it settled.

All of us, if we are saved will stand at the judgment seat of Christ and give an account(Romans 14:10-12 - KJV) 10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. (2 Corinthians 5:10 - KJV) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

If someone has offended you, go to them and work it out. If you have hurt someone go and apologize. It won’t hurt us to say, “I am sorry”. Forgive those who have done you wrong. In these last days, we need to stand together as one and pray for one another and encourage one another. Love your brothers and sisters. Love your church and support it will your time, talent and tithe. Pray for your pastor and encourage him.

I am writing this with a heavy heart, because I see so much hurt and division in the house of God in many places. I see people trying to run the church, but it is God’s church and we should allow the Word and the Holy Spirit to guide the church. I hear of false doctrine today. We need to be sure what we believe and why we believe, not because the Grandma or Grandpa or even the preacher said so, We need to know for sure that God says so.

We had better be getting ready for the coming of the Lord.

May God bless each and every one of you.

April 23 "Orphans of God" Read Psalm 16

“Orphans of God,” is such an inspiring song. I heard the song for the first time last night and the song has stuck with me since. May it bless you as it continues to bless me, please see it posted to our facebook.

Everyone can find something in the lyrics of this song to relate to, wherever you’re at, whatever you’re up against right now, read the words below and listen to the song. Be encouraged that you are not an Orphan – God has not abandoned you and he’s with you right now!

Who here among us has not been broken
Who here among us is without guilt or pain
So often abandoned by our trangressions

Come ye unwanted and find affection
Come all ye weary, come and lay down your head
Come ye unworthy, you are my brother

Broken, Guilt, Pain, Unwanted, Weary, Unworthy, the list can go on & on of the things that make us feel orphaned (abandoned) –

I’ve felt alone before, abandoned, wondering if anyone sees me and yet in a still quiet voice, that’s not quite audible, I hear God whisper, “I’m here.”

He has not abandoned me or you! There are no orphans of God as he is the Father of us all. The chorus of the song goes on to say…

There are no strangers
There are no oucasts
There are no orphans of God
So many fallen, but Hallelujah
There are no orphans of God

In a strange twist it is us who abandon God with our Sin. It keeps us separated from him – if you’re feeling lost, abandoned, orphaned, turn to Jesus and ask Him to save you. God is reaching out to you. Turn to Him – His arms are open wide.

Psalm 16:10 says that He will not abandon us to the Grave!

While many are falling away, you stay with God.

Love in Christ,

April 22 "IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL" Testimony

In 1871, tragedy struck Chicago as fire ravaged the city. When it was all over, 300 people were dead and 100,000 were homeless.

Horatio Gates Spafford was one of those who tried to help the people of the city get back on their feet. A lawyer who had invested much of his money into the downtown Chicago real estate, he'd lost a great deal to the fire. And his one son (he also had four daughters) had died about the same time. Still, for two years Spafford--who was a friend of evangelist Dwight Moody--assisted the homeless, impoverished, and grief-stricken ruined by the fire.

After about two years of such work, Spafford and his family decided to take a vacation. They were to go to England to join Moody and Ira Sankey on one of their evangelistic crusades, then travel in Europe. Horatio Spafford was delayed by some business, but sent his family on ahead. He would catch up to them on the other side of the Atlantic.

Their ship, the Ville de Havre, never made it. Off Newfoundland, it collided with an English sailing ship, the Loch Earn, and sank within 20 minutes. Though Horatio's wife, Anna, was able to cling to a piece of floating wreckage (one of only 47 survivors among hundreds), their four daughters--Maggie, Tanetta, Annie, and Bessie--were killed.

Horatio received a horrible telegram from his wife, only two words long: "saved alone." Spafford boarded the next available ship to be near his grieving wife, and the two finally met up with Dwight Moody.

"It is well," Spafford told him quietly. "The will of God be done."

Though reports vary as to when he did so, that belief led Spafford to pen the words to one of the English language's best-known hymns. Some say he wrote it on the ship to meet his wife, around the place where his daughters died:

It is Well With My Soul

1. When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,

When sorrows like sea billows roll;

Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,

It is well, it is well, with my soul.

2. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,

Let this blessed assurance control,

That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,

And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

3. My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!

My sin, not in part but the whole,

Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

4. And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,

The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;

The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,

Even so, it is well with my soul.
